A Scholar's New Year in Asia

December 22, 2025 – January 4, 2026

Day 1 • Mon, Dec 22 — Arrival in Bangkok

Your journey begins with a seamless VIP arrival service at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), followed by a private transfer to your luxurious home for the next ten nights: the Grand Hyatt Erawan. After settling into your Club Level room, the evening begins with a welcome dinner at a spectacular rooftop venue, where David will introduce the core themes of our journey as we overlook the glittering city skyline.

Day 2 • Tue, Dec 23 — The Cosmology of Sacred Bangkok

We delve into the spiritual heart of the city at Wat Pho. Here, amidst the grandeur of the Reclining Buddha, David will lead a scholarly talk on the concepts of Thai kingship and cosmology that are literally built into the temple’s architecture. In the afternoon, we board a private boat to navigate the historic canals, visiting the workshops of heritage artisans who are the keepers of Bangkok’s traditional crafts.

Day 3 • Wed, Dec 24 — Royal Pageantry & Old Town Flavors

Today we explore the stunning artistry of the Royal Barges Museum, a breathtaking collection of vessels that represent the pinnacle of royal pageantry. We will continue our exploration of riverside life, discovering vibrant markets and the stories told in ancient temple murals. The evening is a curated culinary experience at the acclaimed Erawan Tea Room for an included tasting dinner.

Day 4 • Thu, Dec 25 — The Contemporary Creative Pulse

We turn our attention to the modern, creative spirit of Bangkok. David will lead a curated tour of contemporary art galleries and innovative design houses, culminating in a visit to the private studio of a celebrated local artist. In the afternoon, you will have time for a rejuvenating Thai wellness session before we gather for another rooftop dinner at one of our partner hotels.

Day 5 • Fri, Dec 26 — Perspectives on an Ancient Capital: Ayutthaya

We journey back in time with a full-day excursion to the magnificent ruins of Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam. As we walk through this UNESCO World Heritage site, David’s scholarly commentary will bring the history of this once-great city to life. After a riverside lunch, we return to Bangkok via a relaxing and scenic cruise.

A new perspective

Initially, I was hesitant about the trip, but the host's genuine hospitality quickly put me at ease. David was so kind and patient, and he put me at ease and made me feel like I belonged. Best trip ever!

Meaningful connections

I've been all over the world and have seen a lot, but raveling in a small group made it easy to connect. The rooftop party on New Year’s Eve was a highlight!

Seamless and personal

At first, I thought a tour with a health check option was a bit unusual, but after visiting the hospital in Thailand, I was blown away.
